DigiArcheoSpace International Training Course Held in Primorsko

The international training course of our project titled "Modern Tools for Documenting and Presenting Cultural Heritage in Archaeology," organized within the scope of the EU-funded DigiArcheoSpace project, was held between June 1-5, 2026, in Primorsko, Bulgaria. The training course, hosted by the History Museum Primorsko, brought together participants from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Türkiye, and Romania.

The five-day training course introduced participants to current methods and tools in archaeology and digital documentation through hands-on workshops. Topics covered throughout the programme included online archaeological databases with a focus on Byzantine sigillography, the application of modern cartographic methods in archaeology, the analysis and digital restoration of ceramic artifacts, and the 3D digitization of small objects using RTI (Reflectance Transformation Imaging) technology. On the third day of the training, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Bora and Prof. Dr. Şahin Yıldırım from our university's Department of Art History contributed to the programme with their presentation titled "Database Applications and Archaeology: A Case Study From Tios." In addition to the theoretical sessions, educational visits to the Begliktash archaeological site formed an integral part of the programme.

The training course provided researchers, educators, and field professionals from various countries with a valuable platform for interdisciplinary knowledge and experience exchange. Faculty members from our department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet ALTAY and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lale ÖZDEMİR ŞAHİN, also attended the event as representatives of the DigiArcheoSpace project partner, contributing to this international collaboration. Bartın University's Department of Information and Records Management continues to support this broad international partnership.

DigiArcheoSpace is an EU-funded initiative aimed at strengthening higher education in archaeology through digital tools and methodologies. The project's partners include Bartın University alongside various universities and research institutions from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Romania.
