DigiArcheoSpace International Conference
The international conference titled "Modern Tools for Documenting and Presenting Cultural Heritage in Archaeology," organized within the scope of the EU-funded DigiArcheoSpace project, was held on June 6, 2026, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event took place at the SCAS and was conducted in English, bringing together researchers, educators, and industry professionals from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Romania, and Türkiye.
Bartın University's Department of Information and Records Management was represented at the conference as a project partner. Faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lale Özdemir and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Altay presented their joint study titled "Buried Data: Rethinking Long-Term Preservation in Digital Archaeology." Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Altay also served as a member of the conference's organizing committee. Research Assistant Ceren Bilge Seferoğlu and Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasan Öztürk presented their study examining the position of digital archaeology within the Library and Information Science (LIS) literature through topic modelling and bibliometric analysis.
The conference addressed a range of topics including digital archaeology and emerging technologies, the digitization and preservation of cultural heritage, innovative pedagogical approaches in higher education, interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and ethics and accessibility in digital heritage. The event provided researchers, educators, and field professionals with an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in digitization processes and share practical experience.
DigiArcheoSpace is an EU-funded initiative aimed at strengthening higher education in archaeology through digital tools and methodologies. The project's partners include Bartın University alongside various universities and research institutions from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Croatia.
